Mike Heiser's Blog

Mike Heiser is PhD who deals with Semitic religions usually, but he also has an interest, surprisingly, in UFOs.

Check out his new blog:

  • While he argues his thoughts coherently and intelligently, I have to disagree with the supposed inseparable nature of religion and UFO's (as they relate to the possible existence of extraterrestrial life). To wrap the two together is to remove any non-prejudiced examination of this phenomenon. An example of an automatic prejudice would be to come at the problem from a Judeo-Christian point of view, which would immediately exclude interpretations by other cultures and religions. Either way, doing so is unscientific. The spiritual and philisophical rammifications of alien contact can be examined within religion but I can't see a need when the extraterrestrial theory hasn't even been succesfully proved.

I'm very much of a back-to-basics mind. I think we should throw away all the suppositions and presuppositions that have accumulated like so much detritus and get back to direct observation. From this initial step in the scientific method, we can move forward again, avoiding the pitfalls of the past such as emotional investments.

  • As usual, Cullan, you make valid points.

But for those who can't or won't start from scratch, and those who think there is "religious" aspect to UFOs, Mike's blog will serve.

There is an interesting piece (several actually) in the current SEED magazine (the scientific journal, not the gardening mag) about reality and how observation affects it.

This is an area for UFO study.
