What does the Bigfoot farce tells us about UFOs?

That certain people will go pretty far for temporary fame and/or money.

The flying saucer sightings of 1947 forward brought out the charlatans, publicity seekers, and nuts, en masse.

For some reason – as yet to be really explained – UFOs have a propensity to let loose, in the land, a bevy of wackos who see the phenomenon as grist for some kind of inglorious activity, activity hat is self-aggrandizing or just plain crazy.

This is the case with the Georgia Bigfoot “find.”

That sasquatch insanity, by media and the curious, could act as a template for the UFO nonsense that surfaced years ago and still is intact and alive in a pervasively select UFO community.

Frauds, hoaxes, and other deceptions are rife in UFO circles: photos are faked, sightings are made-up, and (some) abduction scenarios are contrived.

The Roswell incident is a maelstrom of concoctions – some by the United States military and many by Roswell inhabitants who have been afflicted by a kind of mass hysteria.

[Google the 1634 Loudon affair for a Roswell precursor.]

George Adamski, and currently, Bill Meier, are two exemplars of charlatanism who capitalized on the flying saucer mystery, and Meier continues to bilk many UFO aficionados.

“Betty Andreason” is an alleged abductee who has created a case study that the Georgia Bigfoot finders mimic in a way.

Television and the internet have brought all kinds of mentally disturbed people and grifters out of the woodwork and closets.

The sasquatch/yeti contingent hasn’t been as vocal or silly as the UFO crowd, until now.

But it’s the UFO community where the most deranged people participate.

There’s something about UFOs that brings out the worst in humanity, or discombobulates human beings.

Is it the phenomenon itself that brings on the socio-psychological disruptions, creating the mental and ethical quirks that predominate in UFO-land?

Or are UFOs merely a catalyst for the seamier side of society or human behavior?

And if UFOs bring out the worst in some people, why is this so?

Why would those Bigfoot guys be so blatantly obvious in their chicanery?

And how do they typify what is generally the way it is in the UFO panoply?

This is where psychiatry can lend a hand, and social anthropologists can assist.

Reaseach into the minds of UFO sighters and especially abductees could go a long way in solving the UFO enigma, since it is mostly made up of imaginary events….mostly.

  • "There’s something about UFOs that brings out the worst in humanity, or discombobulates human beings."

Simple enough: it's a broad umbrella covering many topics that anyone from a scientist to a village idiot can have an opinion about, a belief in, a (seemingly) equally valid voice on.

Psycho groupies, wannabe hangers-on, "normal" fans, musicians, and music historians attend the same concerts. Some get high, some get drunk, some fight, some slam dance, some sit still, some cry, some sing off key at the top of their lungs.... You wouldn't say "music brings out the worst in humanity."

I think it's fair to say that ufology, like a concert, brings people of various stripes who would not ordinarily associate with each other together--but not together in a harmonious way. Just together. Puts them in the same room like an awkward arranged marriage.

    Make babies at own risk.

  • I agree, I could not figure out a reason they would fake it. it was plain stupid, with absolutely no chance of success and complete destruction of their reputations. Those people in crypotozology don't play. That is why at first I thought they may be telling the truth. But your very right about the history of these things. I just wonder if any of this stuff could be planed for a reason we don't know about. Otherwise, it is just plain human dumbness... so what else is new.

  • Okay, my turn. It's good to witness
the blog authors and Jeremy displaying a good command of our beloved (please don't make it Universal) English tongue. Although
whoops! notice the 'typo' in the title of this posting. On my keypad the 's' key is completely on the other side of the 'l' key.
No comment offered toward Joseph Capp.
This posting by the "Iconoclasts" and the previous two commentators is commonly typical and duplicates precisely the point I mentioned in "UFO Decline" on this blog. Biased blog authors state their standpoints and a 'bandwagon' of uninformed readers blindly agree.
EVERYBODY STEP OUTSIDE of yourselves FOR A MOMENT, A DAY IF NECESSARY. Let your HIGHER SELF into the driver seat for a change. Be noble (means rise above pettiness.) Look closely at what you do, think and say in precisely that order. The usual tendency is to be a SLEEPY, CONDITIONED human doing! An UNCONDITIONED HUMAN is quite capable of doing, thinking and saying anything OUTSIDE OF THE TYPICAL BOX! This is the wonderous beauty of SELF AWARENESS! THIS IS BEING!
And so to the blog authors, moderate and disapprove to your ego's content. To the previous two commentators, go ahead, do the bias(isms), do the closed-minded boogy. It's as valid as anything within this 'rifted consciousness' we all play around in. LOVE, John.
