Greetings,
It is first coming from Jose Escamilla DVD (2005/2006) in my knowledge (UFO – The Greatest Story Ever Denied-) ... You know how is José Escamilla considerated in Ufology by Skeptics? Or?
Thats imho Real search lights + the real CBS sound cover (26/02/1942). An edititing for his DVD then...
But ABSOLUTLY NOT a a 1942 L.A. Battle video historiographical document.
There exist only pictures (you can cross the well known picture with this video and you will see it doesnt match ...)
Regards,
Gilles F.

Thank you for posting this footage. That is the first time i have seen actual footage regarding this incident. The UFO still is one of my all time favourite photos. The fact that almost 1500 rounds of anti aircraft shells were fired at this object unsuccessfully, and that it was very well documented, with photos, footage and hundreds of witness accounts certainly makes ''The Battle Of L.A'' a most compelling case.

But Gilles Fernandez, Adam, says (above) that the footage is fake.
And Mr. Fernandez is a renowned French psychologist and UFO expert.
So the verdict is still out on this one.

True, however, I recall someone's opinion that the newspaper photo had been enhanced for publication, but don't recall whose opinion it was. But if so, a comparison may be invalid, unless we have the negative.

Bruce Maccabee via Frank Warren has a scan from a print made from the original negative

Looks like the newpaper photo wasn't enhanced as some claim.

Yep Don, I remember this discussion about enhancement.
But there are the number of beams problem (2 versus 8 if I well remember), between the (Josée Escamilla "fake"?) video and the newpapers picture imho too.
BTW: there is an excellent article in Tim Printy SUNlite (3.1) about the "L.A. Battle".
http://home.comcast.net/~tprinty/UFO/SUNlite3_1.pdf
Personnaly too, L.A. battle is for me an historical False Alarm episode perfectly "legitimated" after Pearl Harbor, and used later by some UFOlogists to confirm (fallaciously) the "ET visiting" us.
The video is an "editing" simply because the sound is a (historical) radio cover we have the source (CBS).
The source of this "created" video is for me Josée Escamilla in DVD UFO – The Greatest Story Ever Denied -.
It is then not an historical footage imho of the real event, but dunno what "mixed" with the real CBS sound cover + spectacular sounds.
Some ufologists are often great illusionists ;)

Greetings All,
The video above is of search light beams intersecting with each other; thus creating the illusion of an object captured therein.
There is no (moving) film of the BOLA UFO in the public domain to date.
Cheers,
Frank

As the primary bona fide expert on the 1942 L.A. Battle, can you say, Frank, that the video here (and at UFO Mystic) is a fake?

I'm at home with my humble notes.
This is the 2005/2006 josé Escammila DVD where in my knowledge the "video" first appeared (at around 4'50'' in this part3):
http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=2667975719502302586&q=mexico+ufo#
It is not a BOLA public domain footage as Franck Warren stated (there have never existed it seems), but an "editing", a "creation" by José Escamilla to "serve" or to "illustrate" his DVD in my humble opinion, using the real CBS broadcoast radio sound and the real famous picture and dunno what (a real historical searchlight exercice without BOLA link?, a Computer artwork then fake?...). Anyway the CBS radio coverage have been added in this video.
Many UFO sites are using this extract and it seems they have forgotten the source of this video (at least in France) and are considerated it as an historical footage of BOLA... Nana...
In essence, if someone have a date BEFORE Escamilla's DVD release where we can see this footage, very much appreciated. I have been unabble to find one for my humble part... ^^
BTW, now the trailer of a new José Escamilla "project" about BOLA. Dunno if you know this Escamill's "project":

If the source of the video doesn't claim it is real footage, it shouldn't be called a fake. It "dramatizes" the radio broadcast, I guess. If the source doesn't mention that, then it is at least uninformative and misleading.
I think the negative of the newspaper photo probably contains data at the intersection of the searchlights and is not pure white. I think it unlikely an object is visible there, though.

Don

Rich,
Sorry for the slow reply . . .

Hmmmm . . . labeling it "fake" seems to speak to "intent" and that of course would be speculation on my part; however, the first images "are not" of the BOLA UFO.
If I had to speculate, methinks Gilles is on to something.
Here is another example of beams intersecting with each other; thus creating the illusion of an object captured therein:

UFO Spheres found in the old Battle of LA 1942 footage - small dark UFO spheres in the old footage from Los Angeles February 25, 1942, seem to fly into the frame and stay there shortly, and then subsequent rushing out again and disapear. It has been right in our face all the time: http://alienspacecentereast.wordpress.com/2012/01/22/ufo-spheres-found-in-the-old-battle-of-la-1942-footage/

I have to say, that the hoax theory are as weak as the source of the footage it self, because if you don´t know the source (yet), how can you write it off?
