Blog Policy?

ig1.jpg

Poynter/Romenesko, a media notifier, provided this Wednesday, June 1st, 2011:

The Big Picture, a finance blog, offers these guidelines for user comments: “Please use the comments to demonstrate your own ignorance, unfamiliarity with empirical data, ability to repeat discredited memes, and lack of respect for scientific knowledge. Also, be sure to create straw men and argue against things I have neither said nor even implied. Any irrelevancies you can mention will also be appreciated. Lastly, kindly forgo all civility in your discourse . . . you are, after all, anonymous.”

(This might be a good policy for our blogs.)

  • Finance blog? Ignorance?

    This reminds me of a UK TV program about 25 years ago, called "Question Time" (it still runs).
    On the panel were 5 wisemen and wisewomen, comprising politicians and others.
    A question popped up about the Trident missile, then in its early days, and its cost to the UK taxpayers. One female politician, who was evidently innumerate, insisted the cost was 10 billion pounds, saying that she meant "the British billion", which then was 10 plus 12 zeros (i.e. known as 10 trillion). The other panel members tried to correct her saying that the true figure was 10 plus 9 zeros. She would not have it.

    Poor woman. She later was elevated to the House of Lords.

    We have standardised our numerology now.

    Yes, I concede, very off topic.

  • No, CDA, not off topic....right on, as the hippies used to say.

    Nick, the blog policy hits the mark, exactly, and is brilliant; that's why we snagged it.

    Now I hope the dummies get it...

  • "(This might be a good policy for our blogs.)"

    Gosh, considering how many of my own submitted and previously published comments on your blog have been either deleted or censored, and the reasons given for doing so, I thought that is your policy! 8^}
