I had a serious debate with Tony Bragalia about the photos, providing a few that are similar, and telling him that his opening photo was from a B-movie, which we spent hours looking for.
As you can see from his posting, he hesitates to give full crednece to the pictures, which is a smart move, since they are so poor, like most UFO photos, have no provenance, as you note at his blog, and don't conform to what witnesses say they saw.
(We'd post the similar photos here, but that would undercut his otherwise fine account of the Wanaque incidents.)
August C. Roberts claimed that he got a first photo from one of the Police in the Ringwood Police Dept. and then got 4 or 5 more photos from that same cop. Cop claimed he did not know the photographer and Roberts never discovered him, either. This is taken from a first hand account that Roberts wrote for a book titled UFO Photographs. Vol. 1, 1986.
Thanks for this potentially valuable information. I was not aware that the possible source may have been with someone known to the neighboring Ringwood, NJ police department.
And this makes complete sense: Rumor is that some of the cops knew the most about the incident and were conflicted. They did not want to compromise their position, but they wanted the material out.
Roberts was actually at the Wanaque Dam reservoir with his niece Judy and her husband Harold Conroy. Roberts says that he was joined there by a radio reporter named Bob Zanotti. He also says that "a police officer had taken a photograph of the mysterious object and wanted $200.00 for it. Officer Charles had apparently taken the photo and the Police Captain was trying to get him some money for its publication." This alleged photo may be unrelated to the photos discussed by Roberts in my previous post.

Having looked at Bragalia's article and seen the photos, I am not persuaded that the photos were taken at the time of the sighting. Are you?
