Paul Kimball's state of mind...

We consider Paul Kimball a friend, and we follow his blog and Facebook musings regularly.

Lately he has been absorbed by what he sees as synchronicity-like happenings that afflict him.

We think he and his followers might like to see an alternative view.

  • I'm not sure the point required the example of Paul Kimball for you to make it?! The implicit suggestion in the title is gossipy and mischievous imo. To an extent, I respect his willingness to broach these notions without worrying too much about 'what will people think?'

Apophenia, wishful thinking or symptomatic paranoia is rife amongst the subjects of UFOs and the paranormal. I regard it as similar to a spectrum disorder (spectrum 'condition' for the 'hey, we're all equal' brigade lol) whereby we're *all* on the spectrum at some point.

Some well-known names are out on the further reaches of the spectrum and live their days through the filter of meaningful coincidences/ synchonicities. Missing socks are thereby a message from *somewhere* leading to navel-gazing and deep musings about the meaning of consciousness.

The sock turns up but the underlying 'mystery' pervades regardless...

My horse isn't so high as to rule out the possibilities that synchronicities could happen. At times, I'm kinda sure they do and whether this makes a fool of us all, or not, it causes us to think in novel ways that could be beneficial to the human condition.

Given the examples (names withheld through courtesy) of folk neck-deep in the fantasy, it's always important to keep the brakes applied to such thoughts.

Entertain them, but don't become swamped with them. Explore the questions whilst always being aware that our human predispositions to patter-recognition sometime operate in a vacuum of evidence.

PS. Why the heck is that link in IE? I was expecting the usual doc.

  • K:

The post is pertinent specfically to Paul Kimball, as he has been, as you know, wallowing in synchronicity events lately, especially while in LaLa land.

We thought he might enjoy an alternative view for his "observations" as he's a seeker of truth, no matter where it leads.

Sorry that the link was an IE page and not a WORD document, but that leaves the copyrighted material intact as it appeared originally.

  • I agree with Kandinsky inasmuch as we are all on a pattern seeking spectrum by the nature of how we are soft and hardwired by biology and imprinting. W
We are joined to this at the hip by way of language and associative thought, and although his definition of synchronicity by association of having Swiss cheese on his sandwich while coincidentally meeting someone from Switzerland seemed randomly coherent, it's his reality tunnel and who am I to debate this inasmuch as I don't know the man.

It's his dime. If it is a meaningful coincidence to him, debating this seems equally random.

  • I enjoy Paul's blog and often find myself in agreement with his point of view on many subjects.

Nevertheless, his posts about synchronicity while in LA seemed to be stretching the concept almost to the breaking point. Synchronicity is just a matter of how our brains are prone to tie together random events. Remember, we are hard-wired for pattern recognition and often see them where none exist (pareidolia - seeing a face in the full moon).
