I would think that primitive peoples, PG, were so stressed out by their environmental hazards (animals, reptiles, weather, food-needs) that the sexual aspect of their lives (the biological desires or needs) would be secondary at best.
To memorialize sexual parts and/or activity, under the circumstances of living (survival even) corroborates Freud's view of human proclivities.
