When the Men in Black were once the Men in White

Copyright 2012, InterAmerica, Inc.

The Men in Black, whom Nick Redfern has documented rather fully in his book, The Real Men in Black, have been with mankind for a lot longer than surmised.

They ensued right after the dawn of civilization, if The Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament) and various myths have any reportorial accuracy.

The modern-day MIB phenomenon began with Gray Barker’s introduction of them in his 1956 book, They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers.

However, those versed in early religious and mythological tales know that Men in Black types have ponced on humanity well before 1956.

The difference, which seems to have thrown off MIB enthusiasts, is that those early “men” were garbed in white; Men in White, as it were.

The Bible is replete with such encounters:

Genesis 18/19: Verses 1 through 29 (in Chapter 19) recounts the visitation of God and/or his angels, telling Abraham about a pending birth and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Chapter 22 of Genesis tells of a visitaiton by a “man in white” who instructs Abraham to take his son Isaac up into the mountains to kill him. (This “man in white” was a psychopathic jokester it turns out.)

Genesis Chapter 28: Verse 10 tells how Jacob, in a trancendental dream state was visited by the ultimate Man in White (God) and a legion of men in white (angels) who ascended and descended a ladder, as the Man in White offered to give Jacob the land upon which he was resting.

3 Kings 19: Verses 9 though19 provides the story of Elias being visited by the Man in White who tells him that those who worshipped the false god, Baal, will be destroyed and Elias will anoint Jehu the king of Israel.

Chapter 11 of Tobias has a man in white giving Tobias the power to return sight to his (Tobias’)

And the famous Ezekiel passages, so enamored by UFO buffs, opens with a visitation by a man with the appearance of fire who told Ezekiel of abominations in Judah and that he was sending men in white to avenge his (the man of fire's) wrath. Chapter 9 opens with six men appearing at the gate to the city; one man, clothed in linen, had an inkhorn in his hand with which to mark those who had transgressed the man of fire’s proscriptions. The mark, Thau, was to be placed on all who had sinned: men, old and young, women, old and young, pity offered to none who had sinned.

Chapter 10 continues the story with the man clothed in linen carrying out the man of fire’s dicta culminating in the chariot of fire (the UFO imagined by Blumrich et al.).

Daniel 9:20 introduces Gabriel, a ubiquitous man in white, to Daniel. Gabriel offers prophecy and visions.

Then in Daniel 13 (appendix), verses 28 ff. some “men in black” do appear but Daniel proclaimed those men had borne false witness and the people stoned them to death.

In Bulfinch’s Age of Fable and Beauties of Mythology [David Mckay, 1898], Chapter VI presents, in the story of Baucis and Philemon, a visitation by Jupiter, in human shape and his son Mercury (without wings) to Phrygia – appearing as travelers – who were treated well by a poor couple (Baucis and Philemon) while the rest of Phrygia’s residents didn’t. The Gods (men in white) destroyed the village, and made the couple guardians of their temple….

In Chapter IX, Morpheus, at the direction of goddess Juno, assumes the visage of a dead man, Ceyx, to assuage the agony of remorse that his wife, Halcyone, was feeling.

Chapter XXII allows a profane person and despiser of the Gods, Erisichthon, to be eviscerated by the Dryades (men/women in white) in the form of Ceres. (Erisichthon had axed a sacred oak tree beloved by Ceres.)

The Bulfinch book (501 pages) is a compendium of myths from all cultures: Egypt, India, the lands of Norsemen, et cetera.

Among the tales told are many where men in white appear, to rectify wrongs (or cause trouble sometimes).

Two obscure accounts about visitations by Men in White (or Black) can be found in the story of Socrates who was approached by a “ divine being” when he served in the Greek army and the amorphous being who greeted Malcolm X in his jail cell.

That human beings have been visited by Men in Black (or White) for millennia is a literary truism.

Are those visitations real? Tangible? No one has an answer to that. Evidence is oral, not palpable.

Have Men in Black harassed UFO witnesses? Nick Redfern thinks so.

But, like those religious and mythological tales, there is no real proof that Men in Black or White have actually touched or spoken to anyone.

The hallucinatory aspect of such accounts is not to be dismissed easily; nor are the plethora of such recountings.

After all, not everyone who has experienced a visitation by MIB or MIW is crazy,….right?

Predictive Analysis [Redux]

Predictive analysis or Predictive analytics is being using by police agencies to determine crime patterns, telling them when and where the next crimes will appear.

PA has been used for marketing purposes and by insurance companies to examine trends to sharpen business results.

Wikepedia gives a cogent summary of PA. Click HERE to access it.

And click HERE to grab a white paper (PDF) about Predictive Analytics.

The method seems ideally suited to UFO researchers who might want to know when and where the next UFO sighting or sightings will take place.

PA tools are not difficult to master or use. Not to employ the methodology seems remiss to me.

Jonah Lehrer: Liar?

We've used New Yorker articles by best-selling author Jonah Lehrer to make points here.

Mr. Lehrer has been fired by The New Yorker for making up Bob Dylan quotes in his book Imagine: How Creativity Works -- a study of neuroscience and genius.

Click HERE for that news item.

And click HERE for a Forbes piece "Where Jonah Lehrer Went Astray."

Mr. Lehrer was being dogged, before this current debacle, for self-plagiarizing; that is, he was placing material from his earlier writings into later and current writings, an iffy proposition for journalism.

Our piece [UFO Truth -- Not so Fast], using his thinking as a jumping off point, can be read HERE.

So, it's not just ufologists who commit fraud, but also noted writers (among others). It's sad and shameful.
