An Interesting "Flying Saucer" account from an 1890s sighting

Frank Warren presented at his superb web-site, The UFO Chronicles, a YouTube video of an older lady recounting what her father saw in the 1890s.

Roger Marsh of The Examiner uploaded the MUFON video to YouTube.

(I accept the tale as essentially true, and possibly an hallucinatory episode, but very likely not.)

  • I too find the testimony persuasive. But then, that may be because there is a comparable (unpublished) story in my family, dating from about 1918 in rural Wisconsin.

An interesting little (and I do mean little) book along the same lines is "UFOs Are With Us--Take My Word" by Leo Dworshak. I picked up a copy some years ago at a random UFO conference, and they can still be purchased on Amazon for a modest price. It details a story of the author and his brother encountering a large, metallic, landed UFO and its occupants out in the pasture land of North Dakota (as I recall) during the depression. Not very far in time or space from 1918 Wisconsin.

It appears that "classic" UFO reports in the US heartland (whatever their source) go all the way back to at least a half century earlier than 1947.

They just weren't as common (by perhaps 2 or 3 orders of magnitude).

  • I have a tendency, Larry, to find farmer reports of odd encounters (UFOs and otherwise) to be authentic.

Some might be hallucinatory but the bulk of such accounts come at me as valid and true.

Farmers, then more than now perhaps, were true-blue people, without guile or mental problems.

The reminiscence here rings true, for me.

(I'm a sucker for Grandmas, however.)

  • I come from farm people and I just want to tell you Larry farmers are just people like everyone else. There's good ones and bad ones, honest ones and crooked ones, smart ones and not so smart.
