A Socorro-like UFO in Japan [1964]

Our colleague and friend Spanish UFO researcher Jose Antonio Caravaca brings to our attention a sighting he found on Facebook that is similar to the Lonnie Zamora/Socorro sighting of April 1964...

  • And this is like the Socorro account because....? No noise. No landing. No impressions in the ground. No fused sand. No small humanoids around the craft. No insignia. No silent flight into the wind. Yes, RR, accept for these defining differences, this may well be a "Socorro-like UFO". Come on.

  • Dominick:

    It's in the time-frame.

And it's white. egg-shaped (as drawn).

You know I think Socorro was a Hughes Aircraft/Raven CIA prototype.

I'm throwing a bone to the "Socorro was an ET craft" believers.

  • By that token, from my neck of the woods during the same time period.

  • What fascinates me, Paul (and others), is how some sightings come from normal, wholesome folks who are reporting, rather accurately, what they've seen or experienced.

No hallucinations or skulduggery, just an honest account.

What are we to make of that?

  • What are we to make of that?

That despite all of the craziness inherent in the subculture of ufology, out in the real world honest people have seen strange things that seem to defy simple prosaic explanation.

  • This should not come as a surprise. There are many cases where individuals with solid reputations and intellect see things, or have experiences that defy conventional rationale.

It's the conditions of one's environment that play cognitive havoc on the best of us.

    BTW, we've all been there...

I know that you abhor the "Trickster" meme, but I believe that we are our own "trickster" and this has been borne out by the numerous theories of psychology...and psychiatry.

  • Yes, Tim, I agree...

The "trickster" thing is a category of human psychological or neurological malfunction (or maybe, some say, insight).

But I have reservations about cognitive glitches of an egregious kind.

Despite all the evidence of witness failure to get their observations correct, I think most observations are basically correct, so long as the witness isn't inebriated or has sensory malfunctions: people see or hear what they do and give a rather accurate rendition of what they experienced, even after being slightly traumatized.

That's the bugaboo: normal people see abnormal things.

What exactly are those things? Hallucinatory realities? Or something with tangible reality that is outside the everyday reality we are stuck in?
