EXTRATERRESTRIAL INTELLIGENCE AND DOOMSDAY: A CRITICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE NO-OUTSIDER REQUIREMENT by M. M. ´Cirkovi´c1 and V. Miloˇsevi´c-Zdjelar2 [2003]

SUMMARY: The so-called Doomsday Argument has attracted a lot of attention in recent years. One of the suggested ways to make this argument ineffective is the so-called No-Outsider requirement, indicating that the presence of other intelligent observers (’aliens’) beside humans invalidates the reasoning leading to the
apocalyptic conclusion. Obviously, this argumentation bears relevance not only to the effectiveness of the Doomsday Argument, but also to the issues like the relativization of the reference class in anthropic reasoning, transhumanism and the SETI theory. Hereby we criticically investigate the No-Outsider Requirement and conclude that it is either fallacious or irrelevant.

  • “Oh...the humanity!” Another Doomsday Lead Zeppelin. The result?.. The authors seemed to be inside the plot of a Kurt Vonnegut novel.
A discontinuous series of guffaws and chuckles from yours truly. The wife asks ..What are you laughing about? “its a long story….” She knows me and wisely moved on quickly to the next room without further questions.

It has some real comedic possibilities. I kept thinking of “Breakfast of Champions” and Dwayne Hoobler hallucinating he was being tested by robots.

Here we have another example of the fallacies of absolutism, either way, where the psychological concept of controls ( external versus internal ) over an unstable system by inserting more controls by tampering ( influence )or logic results in a predictability of results.

The analyst is the analysed. How they frame a situation precedes any result. Bobby Jones or Bobby Jones Jr?
    Take your pick.
Based on the incompleteness of knowledge regarding an open system, we have predictions going in two different directions at cross purposes due to the illusions of linear causality which is the crux of both which seems to be a matter of “which fascist is more convincing “ as a valuation of predictability.

Its subjectivity disguised as logic on both fronts in a high falutin format.
