No, maybe they don't know why. There is no shame in discussing these matters, even if they bore the pants off everyone else. Persoanlly I am totally (all right, say 95%) uninterested, but concede that others want to continue to air their views or grievances. It would be far, far more interesting if we had the ACTUAL BODY to examine and talk about, rather than two slides of unknown origin! But as with the rest of ufology, the real hardware just ain't there, so we have to do with photographs, or slides, thereof. That's ufoological science for you, as Gilles would agree.Let's face it, we are NEVER going to get a real body, are we?

CDA:Te anti-slides group has been put on the defensive. They solved the slides image but have allowed the slides guys to diminish their accomplishment by arguing that the "mummy" is really an alien, disguised as a mummy. The anti-slides blokes are fending off such patent nonsense with mild, protesting comments, when they should have come out swinging. Also, the anti-slides group has accepted insincere, bogus apologies from some of the culprits, who used "apologetic commentary" to get them back into the UFO fold, knowing that UFO folks are forgiving. even when they (the normal UFO people) have been gulled or tricked by con men...whether it's the Gulf Breeze guy or the May 5th gang, or many others. Moreover, the person who hacked into Bragalia's accounts, Redfern's, Moody's, mine, Ross Evans', Curt Collins', and Tom Carey's (and others) gave himself away, twice at Kevin's blog in comments the past two days.No one caught this, because everyone is intoxicated with the idea that the mummy may indeed be an alien body, reconfigured by the government to keep people from finding out that aliens have crashed on Earth, near Roswell supposedly. The whole thing is an exercise in insanity and deflowers UFOs and Ufology even further.Kevin is anxious to hang onto Bragalia, Carey, and Schmitt (his cronies) and will try to resuscitate their images by pretending what they did or didn't do was just a slightly careless endeavor and they have been misunderstood.Lance is defending, unnecessarily, his work on the mummy placard. He got it right but now is letting others tell him he didn't.Paul Kimball was libeled but decided not to pursue the libel legally or even in commentary, allowing his good name to be besmirched for all time on the internet.Jose Caravaca has allowed himself to be used in ways that belie real scholarship or just plain commonsense. The whole affair is tawdry and continues to tar and feather good guys in Ufology -- yes, there are some -- which saddens me and others who wonder why usually astute fellows can't see how they are being manipulated. The body in the slides was a mummy. The matter is closed, in some UFO circles but not in others, shamefully.RR

Believers get the brand of Ufology that they deserve. I'm aware of the discussion that's on-going at Randle's blog, but have no more pertinent points of view to offer. Besides, you and I are knowledgeable in the psychological aspects of not falling into the trap of circular arguments. That is what I see going on.The RSG has offered up how we (collective we) deciphered/deblurred the placard. This process has been shown to be repeatable resulting in the same conclusions...scientific method prevails on this point so the issue has been resolved with the exception of a few delusional souls. BTW, this was offered free of charge and without dramatic fanfare.I leave it up to Lance, Paul, and Curt to either guide the lost flock to righteousness or to leave them to their on self deluded misery. The image is that of a mummy of human origin bizarre as it's appearance may be to some. I'm still awaiting to see if David Rudiak has sent his request to have the images reviewed and assessed by a forensic anthropologist that he knows...no info back from David at this time. Nothing wrong with this approach as I feel confident that any half-assed anthropologist will come to the same conclusion...mummy of human origin. As far as the fate of those who propagated this delightful, yet bullshitish spectacle, the movers and shakers of Ufology (whoever this may be) are the ones to render a verdict. In the past, I've offered the "scarlet" letter brand of shame, but shame and offering of contrition appears to be a foreign concept to quite a few involved.

Tim:You have it right, as usual.I'm just upset that a few people I like (named in my post) are allowing themselves to be dragged further down the crap hole.UFOs are an embarrassment (Ufology even more so) as it is; this is just more shit on the UFO shingle.Kevin Randle has cachet. He could shut the nonsense off, right now, if he chose to do so. But he seems to like quantitative comments. (Does he get remunerated by Google because he touts his books online?)I don't care if Rudiak wants to pursue the mummy story, but I get the feeling he's hoping to discover an alien angle, as that's his perverse bias. This will come to and, or not (as Gene Steinberg writes) eventually, minus a few more ufological charlatans, one already trying to get back into the swim again but that ain't gonna happen. Then a reasonable pursuit of the phenomenon will begin anew. At least I hope so.RR
Rich -No...There is no financial reward for providing, for free, my postings or those of anyone else. It's just nice to have a forum to express opinion and see what others are thinking about.

Thank you Kevin, I was sort of kidding.....Now if you'd just assert your UFO authority and end the farce, many of us would be beholden to you.As you have many fans, they follow your lead. If you seem to be interested in the slides fiasco, sycophants will join in and continue the nonsense.(I, like you, get crazy-ass comments that are not added to the accumulating goofiness, That's a first-step, and I'm delighted to see agree.)RR
I thank the sceptics and others who helped in the effort.I've had quite satisfactory, cordial exchanges with UFO/Roswell proponents here and at KRandle's blog and am glad.I and my scepticism are evolving slowly, which is maybe the best way to evolve, maybe not.VEHEMENCE certainly seems to be something not altogether helpful in my considerations, comments and exchanges. Good investigation is great stuff and opposing views are quite naturally welcome, they can lead us to define our conclusions about probability even further, when they are even remotely valid, that is.I am a tiny fish in ufology, it's one of many subjects that can draw my attention as a sceptic, which is usually busy with unsupported psuedo-medicines, psychic mediums, cryptids and other subjects which seem, over a very long period of consideration and research to be little more than reflections of human desire and the worn trail of myths. When great effort has reduced a fantastic claim to at best a mistake, at worst a foul hoax, and then even more claims come in regarding aliens disguised as mummies, spacecraft disguised as Venus and such, do sceptics who have already done great work and shown the value of the evidence get really fired up and 'come out swinging'?They have performed already the valuable task as sceptics, can we not just laugh our asses off at the continued claims of some proponents who are still trying to save their original claim?I'm glad for the sceptic's quieter responses to the unseemly dragging of the fantastic hope.It shows more class when we do not rise and shake our fists at the continued flogging of the dead horse (which is now not really recognizable as a horse's corpse anyway.Something like that was floating around in my mind so I tried to put words to it,all the best folks,Woody
