  • Much thanks to the link. I found the medicine and recipe tablet interesting. Wonder if they used the placebo effect as some Native American medicine men discovered...oral tales demonstrated that the use of a placebo worked!

  • As Samuel Noah Kramer noted in "History begins at Sumer" the Sumerians were the first historic source for many things among them are Proverbs.

Here are some links to academic sources of "Sumerian Proverbs"

Fordham University Sumerian Proverbs circa 2000 BCE

The Oxford University Electronic Text Corpus of Sumerian Literature Proverbs:

    Some examples:
In the city where there are no dogs, the fox is boss.

What kind of a scribe is a scribe who does not know Sumerian?

Tell a lie and then tell the truth: it will be considered a lie.

  • Okay fellow, the posting as just to remind readers that, per Tim Hebert's comments about cave art, human behavior doesn't change very much, or at all, no matter what era of civilization we cite.
