Kevin Randle has provided a link to the print version of his new book on Roswell (which includes his take on the Roswell slides fiasco that still enthuses some UFO buffs apparently).

  • Interesting that Kevin Randle has a take on the Roswell Slides and he's never reached out to me. I look forward to checking it out. I posted a response to his recent criticism of me and he seems to be refusing to post it.

  • Ah, the Roswell slides, Adam...

The affair has affected ufology like stink on a monkey.

No one is immune from the smell.

  • It does seem he's now posted my response.

For what it's worth, I have never had an issue with people who questioned our approach with the slides. And I am absolutely guilty of letting people project their own passions onto the slides. I didn't have the time or the inclination to dive into the message board weeds on every bit of slide minutia. My goal was to find the most interesting way to release the slides and then let people have at it. If I was 100% sure that I had photos of an alien, you can be sure that the approach would have been quite different. But after spending 3 years trying to read the placard and trying to figure out what was in the slides, I came to the conclusion that many questions about the slides would never be answered but that it was still a story worth telling. Clearly I was mistaken.

What I take issue with is when people who claim to be researchers attribute things to me that are 100% false. I've spoken with one member of the RRG at length, and yet Kevin has never reached out to me. This blog and Kevin's will in many respects be the official English language record of the slides story. It'd be nice if most of the facts were kept relatively straight.

  • The problem, Adam, is based in large part by "rats leaving a sinking ship."

That is, some who were involved have been quick to accuse others, like you, for their mendacity.

I experienced it myself when a close friend accusesd me of trying to insert myself into the story when all I was doing was promoting his agenda, which I thought was genuine and true.

It's human nature sometimes: put the blame of Mame (to cite and old song).

I found you to be forthcoming and acting like a film-maker: there was a story here, whether true or not, it was a story and you were inclined to film that story.

That the affair went south isn't your problem or purview. You were making a film (or TV documentary), that's all.

    So, I feel your pain.

Kevin's account of the slides story is balanced and fair, as I read it. He doesn't excoriate anyone. That's not his style.

  • Rich -

Adam is right. I should have reached out to him, but then, most of the information in the Roswell Slides chapter was written last summer. Before the great Slide Fiasco Tom had warned me about contacting Adam and Joe Beason for fear they would take their slides and go home. I didn't want to screw up their investigation by inserting myself into it, though I had a great deal of information. Adam seems upset I suggested he said many things that were untrue which I will happily amend to inaccurate.
