UFO Conjectures

The Omnipotent/Omniscient God and impotent ETs

A letter, from a Mark Vernon, to the Editor of the Times Literary Supplement, December 21, 2016 [Page 6] about a previous review essay in the publication about the cogency of Christianity argued that the ancient atomists Democritus and Epicurus “weren’t reductionists in anything like a modern sense.”

The writer [Vernon] ended his missive with this. “As Epicurus put it: ‘The gods exist, for the knowledge of them is clear.’”

This got me to thinking…

If Earth is such a backwater, remote, obscure planet, why does it seem that God is consumed by it?

If my contention that alien species (extraterrestrials) would not folly with Earth in the context of the vastly more interesting cosmos, how is that God (or the gods) would be interested in Earth, considering the immense variety and scope of the seen and unseen Universe?

It’s the uniqueness of the human species – something I’ve noted here, at this blog and others – that might get divine attention.

An omniscient God or being would know this and maybe find it intriguing

But there is something inherently wrong with ufology and the Extraterrestrial Hypothesis, the ETH.

While I appreciate the uniqueness of the human species and the diversity of life on planet Earth, we (of the Earth) are alone, in context of our galaxy and more so in context of the seemingly infinite Universe; that is, alone from the standpoint of other existent species

An advanced civilization, which is very likely not omniscient, that attribute unique to the Supreme Being, would only know about the uniqueness of Earth if it, the advanced species from elsewhere, stumbled upon Earth in a reconnoiter of the galaxy or Universe.

But the odds for that are staggering, enormous.

And while God (or gods) might interact with Earth, as religious and mythology texts indicate, extraterrestrial species would not, could not, interact with Earth and its inhabitants in the numbers that UFO reports denote.

Such ET incursions are, on the face of them, unreasonable, irrational.

  • What if, we consider, the Omnipotent/Omniscient GOD, or the gods, to be the creator of all things. The Earth, Earth like, plus the ETs, in the Universe, that we, as the human race, have not been informed, or have misunderstood the ancient history, that in part, still stands today, as a provoking reminder of what was once, a thriving civilization in all its glory, and great wealth. The evidence is all around us, if we could only open our minds, to understand, what came before us, to what is going on now. The devastating flood, recorded in the Bible, along with other destructive events, literally, destroyed the ancient past,to where we,the survivors, have needed to start over again, to where we are today. We have forgotten or overlooked the past, and the evidence everywhere,is staring us in the face, and we don't get it.....

  • Daniel...

Scientists of various disciplines have looked and are looking (forensically) at the past and historians are trying to unravel the human record of the past.

My point here is to make clear that I think the ETH, beloved of some UFO buffs, is irrational.

  • SO:)...What if, The ETs that we discuss, have always been here on Earth, underground protected from Earths destructive events. That "they" are part of our ancient history that was destroyed, and that the ETs do not come from elsewhere, because "they" have always been here!:) Thinking of the diversity of life here on Earth, they could easily blend in, even with the human race!?..NO? Its a what if, remember? We don't think it is irrational, maybe outrageous, or even controversial, but if they don't come from out there, they might come from here, in more ways than one is prepared to consider............

  • Or, Daniel, they are an insanity meme put in place by the gods who have often played games, seemingly, with humanity.

Many UFO buffs ascribe such behavior to The Trickster, a term I abominate, choosing to see it as the malevolent side of the Demi-urgos (as defined by Jung in his treatise on the Quaternity).

  • Insanity, Rich?.... Maybe some!?..but there is no lack of reason or good sense, in reports on UFO sightings, from: Police, Pilots, Navy, or Military forces, yeah?

To be fair-minded, Rich, they are, our best pick!!.................

  • The "insanity" Daniel, as I've often written, is a meme that passes for reality, (The gods are maliciously creative.)

People report, rather accurately, what they see, but it may be an elaborate hallucination, and no one is immune, no matter what social credentials they have: pilots, police officers, astronomers (remember the Mars canal observations), et al.

The "reality" is not a real reality, as Plato told us. UFOs are not part of the real reality, perhaps.

By Blogger RRRGroup, at Thursday, January 05, 2017

  • Real reality, "perhaps" Rich??:)...? In my book, there is but one reality, the one you perceive! The unknown reality, that Plato maybe implying, can not be a reality, until perceived,as such! and yes, to perceive something incorrectly, to then discover the true reality, is only going to give Jerry another headache:) sorry Jerry.

But yes, we understand your point, I think Rich. That word "insanity" horrifies me, because you can imagine that hanging over someone's head...............

  • From the standpoint of Christianity, of course, Earth and mankind are the very reason all the rest was created. "The heavens proclaim the glory of the Lord" to those made of us in His image here on Earth. One may find this implausible, but it does hold together logically.

Perhaps Earth is what Charles Fort (I believe, or maybe it was John Keel) suggested: someone else's zoo. Perhaps we are known throughout the cosmos as that strange place you visit when you want an hour or two of depressing diversion.

Or perhaps mankind was seeded by an ET race that now takes a special interest in us. I don't find these notions completely implausible.

But more likely, ET and all of the other anomalous phenomena (including many religious phenomena) are related in a way we will likely never understand. We are generating them, or we are interacting with an entirely different dimension or level of reality, or they are demonic, or some cosmic Trickster is simply amusing himself.

Since the phenomena undoubtedly do occur, it doesn't seem to me that any speculation as to what might be generating them should be off the table.
