An Extraterrestrial Artificial Intelligent Surveillance?

On October 2nd, 1978, four boys (pictured above), of Despatch, South Africa, claimed they saw a "gleaming, metallic dome” from which three silver clad entities suddenly appeared, one of them carrying a grayish box despite not appearing to have arms:
The beings didn’t express leg movement but glided, and swiftly moved away from the metallic dome, moving over a fence and then disappearing near the top of a hill.

Police officers, checking the spot where the boys allege they saw the beings, found eight “puzzling imprints in the ground.”

A geologist from the University of Port Elizabeth took measurements of the imprints and found them to be symmetrical and oval, 43 feet by 21 feet in size, each imprint made up of three impressions, “in the shape of a triangle.”

This story, if true, by David Barritt and Malcolm Balfour in the Enquirer adds one more anecdotal footnote to the idea that UFOs may be dispatched AI machines manned by robots.

  • Love stories like this although I am not familiar with this one. What's to love is that it's either true or it isn't and no other explanation really fits. Not a baloon, not a helicopter, not a drone (back then),not ball lightening. And physical traces in the ground to boot. Could be a hoax/prank with the boys involved (or not)(the prefered ZOAM explanation more than likely)but if it is not that, your AI theory moves to the front burner. Cases like this keep some of us in the game.

  • The article, Dominick, offered that the police found the impressions in an overgrown, and dense, "thick" underbrush they had to hack their way into, making a prank by the boys a little harder to use as an explanation.

  • Can you provide us with a full scan of the complete article?

  • It's the 1964 Conklin, NY, case all over again.

  • The 'gliding beings' remind me of Hicks/Parker sighting in Pascagoula, Miss. It appears to have happened some years afterward, though.

You don't hear much about that particular event anymore, but it was a huge story when I was a boy - one of the tales that got me so interested in the whole subject.

  • The Pascagoula event, Vince, is an intriguing case for a number of reasons....

The fellows seem to have had a truly unusual experience.

I don't think it was a prank or hoax, and Parker was the key to the episode.

  • Theo...

I can scan the article, if there is a general interest in the thing.

  • Parker was badly shaken up and his story scanned true, or at least that's what I remember from 40 years ago. I recall there was some kind of tape recorder running while he was unaware of the fact that added veracity to the whole report....? I guess I could google the darn thing.

Love to hear any deeper thoughts you have on that one!

  • Hickson and Parker were telling the truth as they knew it, everyone agrees to that I think.

But Parker's eventual silence portends he knew something that no one else knew, except for Hickson perhaps.

  • Good evening,

This is a very interesting sighting. Columnar shapes with a pointed tip that floats or glide over the ground and leaving marks are not unique.

Here is an account of a similar but black columnar shape that was observed in the Drakensberg mountains, again in South Africa.
Strangely, it was preceded by ball lightning (or earth light?) observations before.

The article is Lightning Phenomena in the Drakensberg Mountains of Natal, RSA

    Ground marks were found.

A video describing the sighting of a luminous floating "ghost" flattening the grass in its movement is described in the following video.
The description starts at 2:05. Unfortunately, it is in French.

We had similar sightings in Quebec along with observations of luminous spheres made in the same time frame.
My own hypothesis is that these strange phenomena are natural and linked to earth lights. Even if the 1978 case refers to
these objects as metallic looking, they may well be plasmas. The small "tool box" would be then a smaller luminous
phenomenon associated with the two larger ones.

Concerning my own observation project, 2016 was a poor year (despite hundreds of raw UFO reports, mostly explainable by
mundane causes) for determining observation sites, as I found no descriptions matching the phenomena I am interested.
This is why I must consider this project as a hobby as there is no guarantee that reports describing possible earth lights will
be reported in a given time period.
