Wouldn't showing the Shroud as legit be an easier path toward understanding rather than hoping UFOs are the key to it all?
Where does this subject stand today? Last I heard some researchers wanted to test more cloth samples since the early tests were conducted on non-original fibers, the scientists were biased, and the results may have been fudged.
I'm open to whatever who-what-where-when (without the "why") you've got. Epiphanies are good, paranormal signs are interesting, but stay away from abductions, please.
Very much look forward to your account of the epiphany and paranormal sign.
BTW Ron: There was a paper recently published in a scientific journal (pretty sure it was an Elsevier journal) outlining the problems with the carbon dating done on the Shroud. Overall there seems to be a lot of evidence for its authenticity that still holds up. I've read a lot of debunking efforts but none really convinces. They still have no idea how it was produced.
(No explanation comes close -- in my thinking -- to what the Shroud shows, except the one that it is in fact a Holy artifact showing us that Jesus was who some of think he was.)
Thank you, Martin. I don't believe there's been much movement at all in getting the Church to agree to further testing, though it's so obviously called for. In fact, there was an Italian study from three years ago (the most recent I'm aware of) claiming the blood patterns on the Shroud are bogus. But overall and especially when you add the Sudarium of Oviedo to the mix, it makes for a compelling case for authenticity.

Happy Easter to you buddy boy (Ron).
I have what it is all about except for why.
I'll point you to my "thesis" upcoming. (I actually had an epiphany Friday night. supported by a paranormal sign.)
