UFO Conjectures

Let me suggest this (and forgive me but give it a go)

While working on my YHWH article for Substack and blog, I was highlighting a PDF of an August 1990 Presidential address by Peter Hayman (of the New College, University of Edinburgh): Monotheism – a Misused Word in Jewish Studies.

No, I won’t present the thesis here; it would irk Dominick and bore the hell out of the rest of you. But I will note what I found in that erudite paper which allows me to consider a (maybe) far-out conjecture about what UFOs are.

(I’ll also reference Nissim Amzallag’s Yahweh, the Canaanite God of Metallurgy from 2009 in The Journal for the Study of the Old Testament. Again, I’ll only present the gist of the PDF to make a point.)

Peter Hayman’s paper was presented to provide some rare and suppressed information that deals with the “erroneous” Judaic concept of monotheism. Within Hayman’s argument lies a number of scholarly broadsides that undercut the idea that early (and late) Israelites believed in one god: Yahweh. (A clarification for those interested can be found at Substack or my blog about the matter.)

For here, let me note that Hayman allows and convinces that mingling with God are Angels, which most of you know. The number of Angels is many and had powers comparable to their “leader.”

Now, here I’m going to ask your forbearance….

During a recent Ancient Alien airing (on History), Giorgio A. Tsoukalos mentioned the Sumerian List of Kings -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumerian_King_List -- that indicated the lengthy reigns and lives of the kings listed.

And in my God paper, I contend that Yahweh (god) came from a human species that also seemed to have long lives, much as the Biblical patriarchs had: Methuselah (969 years) for example.

And we assume that god, himself, had an interminable lifespan, some thinking that “god” lives endlessly or forever, which was not and is not the case, but that for another place and time.

If humans lived long lives, how many years did Angels live? And do some live from then until now, or do Angels have offspring that live long and still reside in Earth’s environs, taunting humans as Hayman’s resurrected texts told?

(This thesis results from Jewish mysticism which is not to be discarded as foolish.)

(The Amzallag paper deals with the concept that Yahweh was the Canaanite God of Metallurgy, skilled in the art of bronze constructs. Did Yahweh live long enough to create a metal craft or was perhaps the being atop Ezekiel’s “chariot” that Josef Blumrich thinks was a UFO?)

Anyway, I’m thinking that Angels persist and may be immortal or long-living creatures, some of whom are transporting themselves now and for a longish time in craft that we called flying saucers and now UFOs (or UAP, if you want).

Hayman cites a midrash [a rabbinical commentary on Biblical texts] concerning a Deuteronomic passage that has Yahweh descending to Mt. Sinai with 22,000 ministering Angels. [PDF, Page 7]

Yes, the idea that UFOs are Angel-craft is tough to swallow and loopy but it would explain José Caravaca’s “external agent” hypothesis and some of those confrontational episodes, many describing – as I’ve noted here often – beautiful beings. (Angels are said to be inordinately beautiful – Adamski’s Orthon was so described.)

The ephemerality of UFOs and sometimes the beings within or about them is often recounted by those encountering the things.

Okay, okay, taking UFOs or ufology into the theological realm, especially the mystical aspect of the metaphysical, is a leap, a queer conjectural stretch. But it eliminates the need for extraterrestrial intervention and falls within the mythological meanderings that support our historical reality, if we let it.

So, let me have it…both barrels.

  • I'm glad to return to a more classical theme (the "Others" that have been here since the creation of Man). I have questions (only one barrel, sorry) that can wait until you and the more learned here kick up some dust.

  • Some slightly different approaches to the same idea:

    1. The finitude or infinitude of God is independent of your final suggestion.

    2. 'Angels' are more likely to do some of the strange things you suggest if they are not all created 'pure', but created (e.g.) from humans with their great range of moral states.

    3. "Angels" is low moral state have other well-known names, and those are more likely to act as you suggest here. Including those with mediocre moral states.

    4. Maybe increased materialist world-views persist in discarnate beings, now more than ever, and they want to continue acting in the physical world, and trolling humans as much as they did before.

    5. Just imagine what all your readership would continue doing if they become discarnate beings with the same moral states as they have now.

  • Yes,we get the gist of beautiful beings that look like Angels, "in some craft"
but how do we explain other craft, whose occupants with big eyes, look like they have no body to dance with!? I think they're called; (Greys) (Reptillians) (Mantis being)& so-on. Good point though Rich! something to think about........?

  • Daniel...

There are some bad and bad-looking "angels" plus my thesis at my God blog is that Yahweh, the Hebrew god was, himself, deformed or odd looking....but one has to see the material that supports that view.

I like your observations. I'd discuss them further here but some long-timers would rough me up.

  • Do I have this clear? There was a race of long-living humans (homo superior?), one in particular who, because of special attributes, was seen by lesser folk as let's say "king," and somehow in the past that was turned into the concept of "god"? And others seen as his minions became "angels"? These are the "Other" that's been with man since his beginnings? These superior humans were living down and dirty with regular humans here on Earth, not in a different realm or on a different plane? No snark intended, just trying to understand the gist. I think it's an interesting take and have no problem discussing that.

I can only imagine the problems suggesting the loss of divinity will cause.

  • Ron:

You have presented the thesis in a few sentences, good for you.

I'll send you access to my whole ball of wax.

  • There is nothing more inane - or prevalent - than lunatic fringe biblical "scholarship." Yes, do bless us with your deep thinking on the subject of YHWH and Judaic monotheism.

Someone who actually knows what he is talking about - a renowned Old Testament scholar with a pretty intense interest in the UFO phenomenon - is Dr. Michael Heiser. His books, many scholarly articles and website are well worth anyone's time.

  • LBP:

    Surprisingly I couldn't agree more.
