UFO Conjectures

What I mean by "research" and ignorance

Here's a guy, on Facebook -- seems to be a good guy; we're not FB "friends" -- who proclaims several decades of UFO research. Really?

Has anyone seen or heard of Mr. Dembeck's "research"?

Facebook is flush with such self-promoting declarations.

And last night I got a note that Tony Bragalia was going to be a guest on a "podcast" or YouTube video play.

I missed the on-live orientation but tried to watch the video around Midnight. My god! What a terrible, amateurish presentation,  beleaguered by a host -- a friend of Bragalia's -- who spent the whole opening welcoming regulars to his "channel" on YouTube, with a folksy, ignorant recitation that was so bad I couldn't;t stick around for Tony's appearance. It was sheer pain to listen further..

That Facebookers are, generally, a sordidly unread, almost illiterate bunch is a given. That I subject myself to such drivel is an indication that I have a problem,

So, I understand Dominick's and Martin's concerns for my suggestions -- conjectures -- here. That I often recommend Tony's offerings have brought me scads of derision.

That I allow or note the fuzzy madness and empty-headed offerings of quidnuncs to intrude here has got to stop, or I have to stop.

The UFO folly is really starting to get to me......

  • YES, I too agree with Rich, foolishly & seemingly ridiculous, not even entertaining, not my style, and left me unimpressed, but at least, I gave it shot with thumbs down. That show wouldn't please everyone, and didn't impress me,at all!!...Although? Tony Bragalia was somewhat easy to listen to, but that was it, for me..What did I learn on that show? - Nothing of interest:[........

  • Thank you Daniel..

I asked Tony this morning [10/10] how it went (the interview). He liked it.

I told him he has to quit working himself out. (He should stick with reputable, smart podcasts and TV programming or newscasts.)

Rummaging in garbage will turn you into garbage.

  • Yeah, there are clowns out there who have turned this subject into farce. Counterpoint to that, this blog remains one of the few safe havens around for intelligent conversation and study. It is thankfully lacking in folly. I'm sorry that burden is sometimes a heavy one.

  • Fortunately, Ronald, I have you guys to make things worthwhile.

I know you see what I see at Facebook -- Reddit is much worse -- and because of your long-time efforts and work in the UFO field, you, like me (and Dom too I guess) find the same-old, same-old nature of the UFO community: a few people taking it somewhat seriously and a lot just using it for some kind of vicarious outlet.

  • You've mentioned the two worst places to get bogged down. To make a crude comparison, those sites are like the WWI battlefields in Europe: plenty of hills to die on, with no apparent reason for doing so, while others cluck over your remains. Apologies to WWI.

I've picked my spot for the civility and honest attempts at finding answers.

  • In agreement and as I've said before I just can't stomach FB.

And as Ron said, I have also picked this spot.

You do a great job RR -as we say in the family "most of the time."

    I try.

  • I wasn't meaning to upbraid you RR. I take it that you're trying to stimulate discussion and cogitation in this intellectually moribund "field." I admire your efforts. Also I think you're totally right to point out the fact that Wright's case is psychologically fascinating--how does such a seemingly sane and accomplished individual come out with that wildly ridiculous tale? (And that's ME of all people calling it ridiculous--and I'm someone stupid enough to think that the Pascagoula event basically happened as described [but it wasn't "space aliens"; though I have to admit I do worry it might've just been some bizarre black project experiment in the vein of MKU].) The fact that most (or all) psychologists couldn't give a convincing answer to that question is a scandal for their field in my opinion.

Anyway you've got the only UFO site I check in on regularly for a reason.

  • Thanks Martin...

I feel we are pretty much on the same page about most things.

And I'm super plessed you're a regular here.

  • FYI, Curt Collins on Facebook mentioned a book about the Pentagon's study of UAPs and its further delving into the Skinwalker Ranch affair ("Skinwalkers at the Pentagon"), the book apparently tying UFOs to the paranormal. Whether this is another example of questionable research and conclusions, I can't say. But I remain leery of such links.

  • I left him a comment when I saw that, Ron.

I hate the "Skinwalker" sobriquet. It reminds me of nonsense and chicanery.

But the book does look interesting.
